Characteristic is blocked by conversion

Summary : This document aims to solve the issue when the compounding sequence of an Info object is changed due to which system throws errors while activating the info object .
Background: Suppose there is a requirement to change one of the compounding object of a master data and replace it by some other info object . In that case what one generally does is directly delete the compounding info object and replace it with some other info object and try to activate the master data info object
In case of a compounded master data ,if the compounding sequence is changed , the activation of master data fails and the following error is thrown by the system ‘ Object Locked by conversion Exit ‘ . Also if the object is already existing in the next system then the transport fails with the same error .
Consider a scenario where object 0Vendor is one of the compounded info-object in an existing master data Object .
The requirement is to replace 0Vendor Info object by ZVendor Info object in the compounding of master data .
In this scenario ,where one compounding info object is to be replaced by another info object , the row containing 0Vendor is deleted and ZVendor is added in the compounding.
When the info object is activated with this change , the following log is shown by the system .
“Error in activating the Infoobject”.
Also the following message is displayed “ Characteristic is blocked by Conversion “
Resolution :
In the change mode of the infoobject , activate the info object in background .
Click on the “Characteristics” menu in the change mode of the info object .

On Activation in background System will show log as shown below :
After this step , the ‘Return to active version’ will be active .

Once you click on ‘Return to Active Version’ , following log will be shown : Click on Yes
“Reset Info object to Active Version “
Activate the Infoobject . The last active version of the infoobject is saved by the system
Steps to be followed to replace the Compounding Infoobject with another infoobject :
Step 1 : Delete the0 Vendor Info object from compounding and activate the info object
After successful activation of info object , now add Zvendor1 to the compounding info object and activate the master data info object again .
Master data info object is activated successfully .
Transport (TR) Collection note : First lock the info object in a TR and then do all changes in the info object so that all the steps shown above are captured in the TR . If the TR is created after all the steps are done , only the last instance of the info object is captured in the TR and the TR fails with the same error ‘ Info object blocked by Conversion’ .
